Ground Deformation

Ground Deformation

Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology can be applied to detect and monitor millimetric terrain motions such as subsidence, uplift, building stability, landslides, flood risks and seismicity. The technique requires two or more SAR images of the same area, acquired from the same satellite position. An Interferogram is an image depicting changes in distance between the radar and ground from two or more subsequent dates. There are many InSAR derived applications, ranging from monitoring volcanic ground deformation and uplift to the identification of individual house subsidence.
