The following announcements have been provided by ESA with regards to the SEDAS portal and data within it.


05 December – Sentinel-2B resumes nominal operations

Following the announcement on 04 December 2017, Sentinel-2B has now resumed nominal operations since 04 December 2017 at 19:00 UTC.

The unavailability period went from 02 December 2017 15:16 UTC to 04 December 2017 19:00 UTC.

04 December – Sentinel-2B unplanned unavailability since 02 Dec 2017

Due to an anomaly with the MSI instrument, Sentinel-2B data products with sensing time after 02 Dec 2017 15:16 UTC (orbit 3869) are not available.

The investigation into the root cause of this anomaly and its recovery are on-going.


27 November – Products publication delay on ColHub Node1

Due to a database performance issue the product publication on the Collaborative Data Hub Node 1 has accumulated a backlog.

Dedicated maintenance activities will be undertaken to recover the backlog. A first downtime of 1 hour will occur at 15:30 UTC of the 27 November 2017. A second downtime, if necessary, will be performed on the 28th of November starting from 8:00 UTC.

The publication on Node 2 is nominal and will not be impacted by the maintenance activities.

24 November – Unplanned maintenance on ColHub Node 1

Collaborative users are informed that an unplanned maintenance on ColHub Node 1 occurred on the 24th of November 2017 from 9:36 UTC to 9:47 UTC causing a service downtime of about 11 minutes. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.


23 November – Recovery of missing Sentinel-2 data on 19-20 November

Referring to the news published on 20 November, we are pleased to inform users that the recovery of missing Sentinel-2 products on 19 and 20 November has been completed yesterday night, hence three days in advance with respect to the original plan.

21 November – Temporary publication delay of Sentinel-2 products in the Data Hubs (19 and 20 November 2017)

As a consequence of a ground segment anomaly, most of the Sentinel-2 products acquired between the mornings of 19 and 20 November are not available on the data hubs.
The recovery of the missing products has started and is planned to be completed within Friday 24 November.
We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.


10 November – Infrastructure Power Outage on ColHub Node 2. Access point restored: 9 Nov 2017, 13:28 UTC

Collaborative users are informed that the power outage occurred on OVH infrastructure (see news) hosting the ColHub Node 2 service has been solved.
The ColHub Node 2 access point has experienced a downtime from 6:19 UTC to 13:28 UTC of the 9th of November 2017.
The ColHub Node 1 access point was not affected by the issue.
Products publication is gradually restored to nominal.

09 November 2017 – Sentinel-2B MSI decontamination sequence between 24 and 27 November 2017

A routine decontamination activity of the Sentinel-2B MSI is planned over a continuous period of approximately 24 hours from 06:15 UTC on 25 November and 05:40 UTC on 26 November (corresponding approximately to absolute orbits of 3764 and 3777).

During this time period, no MSI acquisition will take place.


09 November 2017 – Unplanned infrastructure power outage on ColHub Node 2 since 6:19 UTC

Collaborative users are informed that OVH is facing a major electrical problem at their data centre in Strasbourg where ColHub Node 2 is running. ColHub Node 2 service has been down since 6:19 UTC of the 9th of November 2017.

Investigation of the problem with ERDF (the national company in charge of the electrical network) is ongoing.
We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.


03 November 2017 – Maintenance on ColHub Node 2 on 6-November-2017 from 08:30 UTC

A maintenance activity is foreseen on Monday, the 6th of November 2017, from 8:30 UTC to 16:30 UTC on the Collaborative Data Hub Node 2 for updating the datahub software to the same version available on Node 1.

During the maintenance window service interruptions might occur.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause to your activities.


01 November 2017 – Temporary publication delay of Sentinel-2A products in the Data Hubs since 31 October 2017

As a consequence of a ground segment anomaly, the availability of Sentinel-2A products in the data hubs is delayed as of today, 31 October 2017.

The anomaly is under investigation, further updates will be provided by end of this week.

31 October 2017 – Missing Sentinel-2B data on 25 and 26 October 2017

As a consequence of an error in the mission planning procedure, orbit 3324 from Sentinel-2B on 25 October 2017 has been lost and orbits 3323, 3325, 3331, 3332 and 3334 on 25 and 26 October have been partially lost.

The issue was resolved on 26 October at 13:00 UTC following a re-planning of the spacecraft.

30 October 2017 – New Processing Baseline

As formerly anticipated in news released on 11/10/2017, we are pleased to confirm that the new processing baseline 02.06 featuring the product format evolution described in the Product Specifications Document issue 14.3 took effect on 23 October 2017. The transition to baseline 02.06 is tagged in every new product generated starting from Sentinel-2A orbit 12198 and Sentinel-2B orbit 3289.

Please note that a typo in one XSD schema distributed as part of the Product Specification Document issue 14.3 has been detected and corrected. The zip attachment with the corrected XSD schemas has now been updated in the document.


30 October 2017 – Maintenance on ColHub Node 1 on 30 October 2017 and publication of Sentinel-2B products

Collaborative users are informed that on Monday, 30 October 2017, there will be a maintenance on the Collaborative Data Hub Node 1 ( for updating the DHuS software.

The maintenance activity will start at 8:30 UTC and end at 16:30 UTC. During the maintenance window service downtimes might occur.
After the update, it will start the publication of Sentinel-2B fresh data.


23 October 2017 – Temporary unavailability of Sentinel-2 products

As a consequence of a ground segment anomaly, ESA has advised that Sentinel-2 products acquired since 20 October 2017, 10:00 UTC are temporarily unavailable in the data hubs. The recovery has been already started and is planned to be completed within this week. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.


20 October 2017 – Infrastructure maintenance activities are scheduled on:

  • Wednesday, 25 October 2017
  • Thursday, 26 October 2017

The maintenance will affect the Data Hub services according to the following programme:

During the maintenance, windows service interruptions might occur. The publication of new products will be temporarily delayed for all Sentinel missions. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.


12 October 2017 – Sentinel-1 product format update

Sentinel-1 users are reminded that a minor change in the Sentinel-1 product format will occur by end of 2017/beginning of 2018 and are invited to check the new product specifications and sample products available here.


12 October 2017 – Forthcoming format evolution and new processing baseline for Sentinel-2 Level-1C products

Users are informed that Sentinel-2 Level-1C products will start being distributed with a slightly updated format as of 23 October 2017.

This small evolution features the following main changes:

  • An update of the product-level Metadata file in the structure holding the quality control report summary references
  • An update of the ‘Product Discriminator’ trailer of the product name and filename

Detailed information including highlights on the changes implemented is provided in the updated Sentinel-2 Products Specification Document (PSD version 14.3) . Corresponding XSD schemas are also provided with the PSD v. 14.3 document as attachment.

Furthermore, a new L1C sample product is available for download.

As of the 23 October, the routine production featuring this evolution will tag every product with the new processing baseline number 02.06 reported in the product filename and metadata.

The SNAP Software and Sen2Cor processor are being aligned in parallel to the new format and will be made available by mid-October. Backward compatibility with previous formats will be maintained.


6 October 2017 – Please note that the Sentinel-1 products acquired within the following sensing times for Sentinel-1A and Sentinel-1B presented a degraded geolocation accuracy:

  • Sentinel-1A: 2017/09/06 18:57:47 UTC – 2017/09/07 08:07:45 UTC
  • Sentinel-1B: 2017/09/06 18:07:43 UTC – 2017/09/07 07:17:41 UTC

A new version of hte impacted products, using correct orbital information, will be available for download starting from today.


4 October 2017 – Sentinel Data Access Annual Report 2016

In the process of a review by ESA, a mistake has been corrected in the Sentinel Data Access Annual Report 2016, at page 38, concerning the size of the ‘Commercial’ user group registered on the Copernicus Open Access Hub.

The updated version 1.2 of the Report can be downloaded here.


1 October 2017 – Dismission of ColHub Node 2 old address

  • The old Node 2 address will no longer be operational starting from the 1st of October 2017.
  • The new Node 2 address has been operational since the 27th of July 2017 and provides access, with the same credentials, to the last two weeks of:-Sentinel-1A, Sentinel-1B Near Real Time and Non Time Critical data
    -Sentinel-2A L1C data.


27 September 2017 – Recovery of Sentinel-1 publication backlog on the Data Hubs

  • Users are informed that there has been a delay on the publication of Sentinel-1 products since Saturday 23 2017 at 5:00 UTC up to Tuesday 26 2017 at 20:00 UTC because of an infrastructure performance issue.
  • The products publication backlog has been recovered as per today 27 September 2017
