Announcements

The following announcements have been provided by ESA with regards to the SEDAS portal and data within it.

 

15 May – Sentinel-2B MSI decontamination between 26 and 28 May 2018

A routine decontamination activity of the Sentinel-2B MSI is planned to take place over a continuous period of 24-hours between 26 and 27 May, from 18:00 to 18:00 UTC (corresponding to the period between absolute orbits 6373 to 6387). During this temporal window, no MSI acquisition will take place.

Correlated calibration activities will be performed around the decontamination period which will affect the nominal acquisition plan even further between 26 and 28 May from 07:00 to 09:30 UTC

 

08 May – Temporary publication delay of Sentinel-2 products in the Data Hubs

As a consequence of a ground segment anomaly that occurred on Saturday 05 May in the evening and was solved on Monday 07 May in the morning, the availability in the Data Hubs of some of Sentinel-2 products with sensing date within this time window is delayed.

The recovery of the missing products has been started and is expected to be completed by this week.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

 

03 May – UK Public Holiday on 7 May

Please be advised that Monday 7th May 2018 is a public holiday in the UK and the facilities in Newport and Guildford will be unattended during this time.

We will be back in the office on Tuesday 8th May when operations will resume and we will send any relevant reports.

 

30 April – Temporary publication delay of Sentinel-2 L1C products

Due to a ground segment anomaly, the availability of Sentinel-2 L1C products was delayed in the data hubs on 29 April 2018.

We have taken actions to resolve this issue and the nominal flow has been resumed.

26 April – Sentinel-1 products to be republished

The Sentinel-1 Level-1 products acquired between 21 and 22 of March 2018 and between 8 and 11 of April 2018 have been processed without Restituted Orbit Files (AUX_RESORB) and are subject to the following quality disclaimers:

A new version of these products will be gradually published in the next days. The original products (as listed in the corresponding quality disclaimer) will be removed from the on-line data access only when the new version has been published.

 

25 April – Incident on Data Hub infrastructure: resolved (24 April 2018, 14:15 UTC)

Users are informed that the incident on the Data Hub infrastructure started at 9:30 UTC (24 April 2018) has been resolved at 14:15 UTC (24 April 2018).

The incident was triggered by the combination of a problem on the switches interconnecting the servers to the storage and by the fault of the switches failover mechanism. The problems have been identified and fixed.

The services downtime lasted for about 4 hours and 45 minutes.

Products publication flows are back to nominal on all data dissemination services.

24 April – Blocking Incident on the Data Hub Infrastructure

Users are informed that there has been a blocking infrastructure incident at one of the data hub centres on 24 April 2018 starting at 09:30 UTC leading to a downtime of the following dissemination services:

  • Open Access Hub (including API Hub)
  • Copernicus Services Data Hub
  • Collaborative Data Hub Node 1
  • Sentinel-3 PreOps
  • GNSS Rinex PreOps

Commissioning services are also affected.
The publication of new products on ColHub Node 2 and Node 3 and on the International Access Hub is temporarily suspended.

The incident is under investigation with the on-site engineers. An update will be given as soon as the failures are isolated and a schedule for service recovery will be available.

19 April – Software Maintenance on ColHub

Collaborative users are informed that on the 19th of April 2018 a data hub software update will be performed on all the three access nodes. The maintenance window will start at 7:00 UTC and end at 15:00 UTC.
The maintenance activity on Node 2 and Node 3 might cause short service downtimes or interrupt for few seconds ongoing downloads.
The update on Node 1 will be performed contextually to the scheduled infrastructure maintenance announced here

The update will not affect the currently available API and GUI interfaces towards the users but is meant for improving the data offer synchronization among the centres.

17 April – Scheduled Data Hub Infrastructure maintenance: 18 and 19 April 2018

Following the maintenance activities on the Data Hubs on 10 and 11 April 2018, two new activities have been scheduled aimed at improving the data access performance and to properly re-balance the traffic load:

  • From 06:30 UTC to 17:00 UTC on 18 April 2018
  • From 06:30 UTC to 17:00 UTC on 19 April 2018

The maintenance will affect the Data Hub services according to the following programme:

18 April 2018
During the maintenance window no service downtimes are foreseen, however it is expected that performance will be degraded on the search and download functions on the following data hub services:

19 April 2018
During the maintenance window the following Data Hub Services will not be accessible:

 

12 April – Unplanned power outage on 9-10 April 2018: Copernicus Service Data Hub unavailability

Users are informed that due to a major power outage in Frankfurt, the Copernicus Services Data Hub has been unavailable from 19:36 UTC , 9 April 2018, to 09.37 UTC, 10 April 2018.

The incident temporarily suspended the publication of the following products:

  • Sentinel-2B L1C
  • Sentinel-2A L2A
  • Sentinel-2B L2A
  • Sentinel-3A All instruments and product levels

on all the Data Hub Services including:

  • Open Hub and API Hub
  • Sentinel-3 PreOps
  • Collaborative Data Hub Node 1, 2 and 3
  • International Access Hub

The publication data flow has been restored and back to nominal operations. We apologise for the inconvenience this might have caused to your activities.

 

29 March –  With reference to the news published on the 21 of March

Users are informed that the start of Maintenance 2 has been postponed to the 3rd of April 2018, 13:00 UTC. The maintenance activity will be completed at 11:00 UTC of the 4th of April 2018.

During the maintenance window the following Data Hub Services will not be accessible:

The International Access Hub and the Collaborative Data Hub – Node 2 and Node 3 will continue to be accessible to their registered users however the publications of the NTC products will be suspended for the whole duration of the maintenance window. The Sentinel-1 NRT products will continue to be published on the Collaborative Data Hub Node 2.
A temporary access hub will be activated for providing access to the last two weeks of Sentinel Data without registration. The temporary data hub will be available at the following address:

21 March  – Data Hub major infrastructure upgrade activities: from 26 to 29 March 2018

As follow-up of the infrastructure maintenance activities performed at the beginning of March for upgrading the storage facilities, a new set of activities has been scheduled for improving the data access performances:

  • Maintenance 1: from Monday, 26 March 2018 to Wednesday, 28 March 2018
  • Maintenance 2: from Wednesday, 28 March 2018 to Thursday, 29 March 2018

The maintenance will affect the Data Hub services according to the following programme:

Maintenance 1: from Monday, 26 March 2018, 7:30 UTC to Wednesday, 28 March 2018, 14:00 UTC
During the maintenance window no service downtimes are foreseen, however it is expected a performance degradation on the search and download functions on the following data hub services:

Maintenance 2: from Wednesday, 28 March 2018, 14:00 UTC to Thursday, 29 March 2018 11:00 UTC
During the maintenance window the following Data Hub Services will not be accessible:

The International Access Hub and the Collaborative Data Hub – Node 2 and Node 3 will continue to be accessible to their registered users however the publications of the NTC products will be suspended for the whole duration of the maintenance window. The Sentinel-1 NRT products will continue to be published on the Collaborative Data Hub Node 2.
A temporary access hub will be activated for providing access to the last two weeks of Sentinel Data without registration. The temporary data hub will be available at the following address:

07 March – Data Hub services resume operations

The extended planned maintenance of the Data Hub infrastructure on 5 and 6 March 2018 has been closed, and all services have been resumed as of 09:00 CET today.

Unfortunately the upgrade of the storage infrastructure in view of the upcoming Sentinel-5P production, Sentinel-2 L2 global production and Sentinel-3B was not completed as planned, and a subsequent maintenance will be announced following the anomaly root cause analysis review with the infrastructure vendor.

The backlog of production publication that has accumulated during the maintenance period will be gradually recovered and we expect the nominal timeliness of the publication to be recovered within the next 24 hours.

06 March – Data Hub Infrastructure Maintenance extended to the 6 March 2018

The scheduled maintenance of the 5th of March 2018 (below) has been extended to the 6th of March 2018. The maintenance consists in the upgrade of the storage infrastructure in view of the upcoming Sentinl-5p production, Sentinel-2 L2 global production and Sentinel-3B. Infrastructure incidents have occurred during the maintenance slowing down the upgrade process. The root cause has been identified and system engineers are currently working for restoring the situation as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause to your activities.

 

01 March – Scheduled Data Hub infrastructure maintenance: 5 March 2018

Infrastructure maintenance activities are scheduled on Monday 5 March from 07:30 UTC to 19:00 UTC.

During the maintenance window the following Data Hub services will be unavailable:

The International Access Hub and the Collaborative Data Hub Node 2 will be available for queries and downloads but the products publication will be suspended until the end of the maintenance period.
Exception is made for the Sentinel-1 Near-Real-Time products that will be regularly published on ColHub Node 2

27 February – Unscheduled Downtime on ColHub Node 2 (25 February 2018)

Collaborative users are informed that it has been registered a network incident on ColHub Node 2 on date 25 February 2018.  The incident started at 19:58 UTC for a duration of 3 hours and 54 minutes. The root cause has been identified and fixed.  We apologise for the inconvenience that this might have caused to your activity.

 

06 February – Temporary publication delay of Sentinel-2 products in the Data Hubs

Users are informed that the availability of the Sentinel-2 products in the data hubs is delayed as of 05 February 2018.

Based on the current analysis at the ground segment level, such delay would be linked to the ongoing maintenance on DHuS infrastructure, resulting in the degraded performances of Sentinel-2 products dissemination to data hubs. There has been an ongoing investigation on the network side to fix this issue as soon as possible.

02 February – Sentinel-2A MSI decontamination between 02 and 05 February 2018

A routine decontamination activity of Sentinel-2A MSI is planned over a continuous period of about 72 hours between 07:20 UTC on 02 February and 08:00 UTC on 05 February 2018.

No nominal MSI acquisitions will take place during this planned unavailability period.

 

18 January – Infrastructure upgrade activities: 23, 30 and 31 Jan 2018

In preparation for the next set of service infrastructure upgrades a set of maintenance activities are scheduled on 23, 30, 31 Jan. The maintenance will affect the Data Hub services according to the following programme:

Tuesday, 23 January 2018 from 07:00 UTC to 18:30 UTC
During the maintenance window the following Data Hub services will be unavailable:

  • Copernicus Open Access Hub (also including API Hub and the Sentinel-3A Pre-operations Data Hub)
  • Collaborative Data Hub – Node 1
  • Copernicus Services Data Hub

The International Access Hub and the Collaborative Data Hub Node 2 will be available for queries and downloads, however the publication of new products will be suspended for the duration of the maintenance. The publication of the Sentinel-1 NRT products will be instead nominal.

30 and 31 January 2018 and from 07:00 UTC
During the maintenance window it is expected a performance degradation on the search and download functions.
The following Data Hub services will be affected:

  • Copernicus Open Access Hub (also including API Hub and the Sentinel-3A Pre-operations Data Hub)
  • Collaborative Data Hub – Node 1
  • Copernicus Services Data Hub

The publication of new products will be temporarily delayed for all Sentinel missions. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

 

19 December – New Sentinel-2A Spectral Response Functions

A new version of the Sentinel-2A spectral response functions has been released.
These updated Sentinel-2A spectral responses are mainly changing the responses for bands B01 and B02.
The new spectral response functions will be made applicable and used by the ground segment from 15 January 2018.
Users are recommended to update all processors that are using these spectral responses (e.g. atmospheric correction algorithms).
The new Sentinel-2A spectral response functions are available in the Sentinel-2 MSI Document Library.

 

05 December – Sentinel-2B resumes nominal operations

Following the announcement on 04 December 2017, Sentinel-2B has now resumed nominal operations since 04 December 2017 at 19:00 UTC.

The unavailability period went from 02 December 2017 15:16 UTC to 04 December 2017 19:00 UTC.

04 December – Sentinel-2B unplanned unavailability since 02 Dec 2017

Due to an anomaly with the MSI instrument, Sentinel-2B data products with sensing time after 02 Dec 2017 15:16 UTC (orbit 3869) are not available.

The investigation into the root cause of this anomaly and its recovery are on-going.

 

27 November – Products publication delay on ColHub Node1

Due to a database performance issue the product publication on the Collaborative Data Hub Node 1 has accumulated a backlog.

Dedicated maintenance activities will be undertaken to recover the backlog. A first downtime of 1 hour will occur at 15:30 UTC of the 27 November 2017. A second downtime, if necessary, will be performed on the 28th of November starting from 8:00 UTC.

The publication on Node 2 is nominal and will not be impacted by the maintenance activities.

24 November – Unplanned maintenance on ColHub Node 1

Collaborative users are informed that an unplanned maintenance on ColHub Node 1 occurred on the 24th of November 2017 from 9:36 UTC to 9:47 UTC causing a service downtime of about 11 minutes. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

 

23 November – Recovery of missing Sentinel-2 data on 19-20 November

Referring to the news published on 20 November, we are pleased to inform users that the recovery of missing Sentinel-2 products on 19 and 20 November has been completed yesterday night, hence three days in advance with respect to the original plan.


21 November – Temporary publication delay of Sentinel-2 products in the Data Hubs (19 and 20 November 2017)

As a consequence of a ground segment anomaly, most of the Sentinel-2 products acquired between the mornings of 19 and 20 November are not available on the data hubs.
The recovery of the missing products has started and is planned to be completed within Friday 24 November.

10 November – Infrastructure Power Outage on ColHub Node 2. Access point restored: 9 Nov 2017, 13:28 UTC

Collaborative users are informed that the power outage occurred on OVH infrastructure (see news) hosting the ColHub Node 2 service has been solved.
The ColHub Node 2 access point has experienced a downtime from 6:19 UTC to 13:28 UTC of the 9th of November 2017.
The ColHub Node 1 access point was not affected by the issue.
Products publication is gradually restored to nominal.

09 November 2017 – Sentinel-2B MSI decontamination sequence between 24 and 27 November 2017

A routine decontamination activity of the Sentinel-2B MSI is planned over a continuous period of approximately 24 hours from 06:15 UTC on 25 November and 05:40 UTC on 26 November (corresponding approximately to absolute orbits of 3764 and 3777).

During this time period, no MSI acquisition will take place.

 

09 November 2017 – Unplanned infrastructure power outage on ColHub Node 2 since 6:19 UTC

Collaborative users are informed that OVH is facing a major electrical problem at their data centre in Strasbourg where ColHub Node 2 is running. ColHub Node 2 service has been down since 6:19 UTC of the 9th of November 2017.

Investigation of the problem with ERDF (the national company in charge of the electrical network) is ongoing.

03 November 2017 – Maintenance on ColHub Node 2 on 6-November-2017 from 08:30 UTC

A maintenance activity is foreseen on Monday, the 6th of November 2017, from 8:30 UTC to 16:30 UTC on the Collaborative Data Hub Node 2 for updating the datahub software to the same version available on Node 1.

During the maintenance window service interruptions might occur.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause to your activities.

 

01 November 2017 – Temporary publication delay of Sentinel-2A products in the Data Hubs since 31 October 2017

As a consequence of a ground segment anomaly, the availability of Sentinel-2A products in the data hubs is delayed as of today, 31 October 2017.

The anomaly is under investigation, further updates will be provided by end of this week.

31 October 2017 – Missing Sentinel-2B data on 25 and 26 October 2017

As a consequence of an error in the mission planning procedure, orbit 3324 from Sentinel-2B on 25 October 2017 has been lost and orbits 3323, 3325, 3331, 3332 and 3334 on 25 and 26 October have been partially lost.

The issue was resolved on 26 October at 13:00 UTC following a re-planning of the spacecraft.

30 October 2017 – New Processing Baseline

As formerly anticipated in news released on 11/10/2017, we are pleased to confirm that the new processing baseline 02.06 featuring the product format evolution described in the Product Specifications Document issue 14.3 took effect on 23 October 2017. The transition to baseline 02.06 is tagged in every new product generated starting from Sentinel-2A orbit 12198 and Sentinel-2B orbit 3289.

Please note that a typo in one XSD schema distributed as part of the Product Specification Document issue 14.3 has been detected and corrected. The zip attachment with the corrected XSD schemas has now been updated in the document.

 

30 October 2017 – Maintenance on ColHub Node 1 on 30 October 2017 and publication of Sentinel-2B products

Collaborative users are informed that on Monday, 30 October 2017, there will be a maintenance on the Collaborative Data Hub Node 1 (https://colhub.copernicus.eu/dhus) for updating the DHuS software.

The maintenance activity will start at 8:30 UTC and end at 16:30 UTC. During the maintenance window service downtimes might occur.
After the update, it will start the publication of Sentinel-2B fresh data.

 

23 October 2017 – Temporary unavailability of Sentinel-2 products

As a consequence of a ground segment anomaly, ESA has advised that Sentinel-2 products acquired since 20 October 2017, 10:00 UTC are temporarily unavailable in the data hubs. The recovery has been already started and is planned to be completed within this week. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.

 

20 October 2017 – Infrastructure maintenance activities are scheduled on:

  • Wednesday, 25 October 2017
  • Thursday, 26 October 2017

The maintenance will affect the Data Hub services according to the following programme:

During the maintenance, windows service interruptions might occur. The publication of new products will be temporarily delayed for all Sentinel missions. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

 

12 October 2017 – Sentinel-1 product format update

Sentinel-1 users are reminded that a minor change in the Sentinel-1 product format will occur by end of 2017/beginning of 2018 and are invited to check the new product specifications and sample products available here.

 

12 October 2017 – Forthcoming format evolution and new processing baseline for Sentinel-2 Level-1C products

Users are informed that Sentinel-2 Level-1C products will start being distributed with a slightly updated format as of 23 October 2017.

This small evolution features the following main changes:

  • An update of the product-level Metadata file in the structure holding the quality control report summary references
  • An update of the ‘Product Discriminator’ trailer of the product name and filename

Detailed information including highlights on the changes implemented is provided in the updated Sentinel-2 Products Specification Document (PSD version 14.3) . Corresponding XSD schemas are also provided with the PSD v. 14.3 document as attachment.

Furthermore, a new L1C sample product is available for download.

As of the 23 October, the routine production featuring this evolution will tag every product with the new processing baseline number 02.06 reported in the product filename and metadata.

The SNAP Software and Sen2Cor processor are being aligned in parallel to the new format and will be made available by mid-October. Backward compatibility with previous formats will be maintained.

 

6 October 2017 – Please note that the Sentinel-1 products acquired within the following sensing times for Sentinel-1A and Sentinel-1B presented a degraded geolocation accuracy:

  • Sentinel-1A: 2017/09/06 18:57:47 UTC – 2017/09/07 08:07:45 UTC
  • Sentinel-1B: 2017/09/06 18:07:43 UTC – 2017/09/07 07:17:41 UTC

A new version of hte impacted products, using correct orbital information, will be available for download starting from today.

 

4 October 2017 – Sentinel Data Access Annual Report 2016

In the process of a review by ESA, a mistake has been corrected in the Sentinel Data Access Annual Report 2016, at page 38, concerning the size of the ‘Commercial’ user group registered on the Copernicus Open Access Hub.

The updated version 1.2 of the Report can be downloaded here.

 

1 October 2017 – Dismission of ColHub Node 2 old address colhub.esa.int

  • The old Node 2 address https://colhub.esa.int/dhus will no longer be operational starting from the 1st of October 2017.
  • The new Node 2 address https://colhub2.copernicus.eu/dhus has been operational since the 27th of July 2017 and provides access, with the same credentials, to the last two weeks of:-Sentinel-1A, Sentinel-1B Near Real Time and Non Time Critical data
    -Sentinel-2A L1C data.

 

27 September 2017 – Recovery of Sentinel-1 publication backlog on the Data Hubs

  • Users are informed that there has been a delay on the publication of Sentinel-1 products since Saturday 23 2017 at 5:00 UTC up to Tuesday 26 2017 at 20:00 UTC because of an infrastructure performance issue.
  • The products publication backlog has been recovered as per today 27 September 2017
